Review: EVANESCENCE Gives Fans What They Want At Saltair

Dan Nailen of The Salt Lake Tribune reports that "EVANESCENCE could end up as this year's Norah Jones, minus the critical hoopla and substituting Jones' yuppie fan base with rabid, fist-pumping teenagers.

"Like Jones, the Little Rock, Ark., band led by singer Amy Lee and guitarist Ben Moody seemingly appeared from nowhere. They scored a massive hit song ('Bring Me to Life') that invaded multiple radio formats and is going strong seven months after it debuted on the 'Daredevil' soundtrack. And EVANESCENCE's debut album, 'Fallen', has quietly sold a couple of million copies, and could end up as the best-selling album of the year.

"All of which goes a long way toward explaining why Saltair was packed far more than a typical show when EVANESCENCE headlined the Nintendo Fusion Tour there Thursday night [September 4]. When EVANESCENCE last played Utah in the spring, 'Bring Me to Life' was just taking off. Now the band, especially Lee, are the hottest new rock act in America.

"One problem EVANESCENCE has is shared by Norah Jones — songs start sounding alike when delivered back-to-back. When basically everything is an epic mini-drama, songs like 'Taking Over Me', 'Everybody's Fool' and 'My Last Breath' start to bleed together, as they did Thursday." Read more.
